Alison Lighthall Miller, MSN, PMHRN-BC
Alison Lighthall Miller, MSN, PMHRN-BC, FAIS, has been a psychiatric nurse since 1992 and a nurse educator for more than 25 years. Alison earned her BSN from Eastern Michigan University (Sigma Theta Tau) and MSN in adult psychiatric nursing from the University of Illinois-Chicago. In 2004, she joined the US Army Nurse Corps, where she provided mental resilience training to troops and commanders prior to deployment and psychological debriefings to soldiers having just returned home. After discharge, she was recruited by Fort Carson to serve as their Psychiatric Nurse Consultant, tasked with helping reduce the active duty solider suicides and to serve as team leader of their Behavioral Health Urgent Response Team. In 2016, she became HCA's Division Director of Behavioral Health Education, where she was responsible for the development and roll-out of psychiatric nursing curriculum to 16 hospitals. She also created and ran an 8-week online exam prep course for the psychiatric nurses working within that Division, which helped over 70 RNs become Board Certified as Psychiatric Nurses during a 12-month span. Alison is a Psychiatric Nursing Education Consultant, the author of several exam prep books, is considered a subject matter expert by the US Army on understanding and caring for the combat veteran, and a popular national speaker. She splits her time between Chicago and Western North Carolina.
